After a morbid Wednesday night in, and with the prospect of having to go to bed early due to the lack of entertainment on the telly ! I stumbled across Kimberly Walsh: Blue Jean Girl. The Girls Aloud singer had jumped over the pond to investigate the wardrobe staple jeans ! Kimberly discovers the origins of denim and their changing status from an item worn by American gold miners in the 1800s to the cowboys of  the 1930s.
But it's the 1960s I want to talk about and in particular one actress, pop icon and my idol who is still on everyones mind even after her tragic and untimely death.


I am of course talking about Norma Jean a.k.a Marilyn Monroe !

From watching this programme I discovered that in the 1960s during the filming of Arthur Miller's TheMisfits, Marilyn Monroe began wearing the classic mens Levi 501 jeans. It is unknown whether this was due to her starring in a Cowboy/Western movie, or because Marilyn was simply pioneering the unisex way of wearing what had previously been reserved as men's apparel. Whatever her reasons I think we all owe Miss Monroe a thank you for setting the trend that we know today as the "boyfriend jean"

June in a nut shell !

Fingers crossed this will become a regular occurrence on my blog ! A segment where each month I will give my opinion on the best what you should be doing that month ! This month - June !

1) If you go to one store visit Coco Boo ! A small boutique tucked away down Cannon Street, Preston selling gorgeous womenswear ! Their online store is currently being made over ! So for now visit them on Facebook- http://www.facebook.com/coco.boo ! Or even better if you're in Preston go instore !

2) If you watch one movie this month, it undoubtably will have to be Sex and the City 2 ! Watch the four fashionistas show the Middle East how to do it big apple style !

3) If you listen to one band this month it has to be DropTheGirl! Never heard of them ! Why the hell not ? Recently showcasing at the O2 Academy, Liverpool and with more gigs to come, the pop punk band and their contagious lyrics such as "So i was thinking, what ya drinking" should most definetely be on your iPod playlists. 4) If you drink one cocktail it has to be a Hello Sailor! I first tried this cocktail while out in Liverpool in a cocktail bar called Django's Riff ! A Hello Sailor! is just like the classic Mojito but instead of using a rum such as Havana Club or Bacardi this cocktail is made using the not so well known Sailors Jerry hence the name Hello Sailor! 

5) If you buy one book buy Candice Bushnell latest installment in the Sex and the City saga ! 

The Carrie Bradshaw DIaries, the book is all about Carrie Bradshaw before her article in The New York Star, before the Manolo Blahniks, before the Cosmopolitians, before Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha, it's all we need to know about the part of Carrie's life we don't already know ! 

6) If you buy one item of clothing this month it should be a maxi dress, back by popular demand maxi dresses have become the summer trend whether it be for that long awaited holiday vacation or even for a summer wedding much to my surprise. The maxi dress can be a simple silhouette but a vibrant safari print or a loud tribal print should be a key trend in any woman's closet.

If you can afford to splurge the cash, why not treat yourself to this Diane Von Furstenberg Farrin printed maxi dress - priced at 430 pounds ! (my pound sign button wont work, ooopps!) Wear with tribal looking on trend wooden jewellery !

If you're watching the bank balance this month, why not opt for this pansy print bandeau maxi dress - a mere 20 pounds from Dorothy Perkins ! Team up with a vintage looking belt to show off your curves

7) If you have one naughty treat this month save all the calories and have a delicious cupcake from Oh-Crumbs. The Manchester based company were kin enough to come along to the Stylists' Closet, where they set up a stall in the Pad Gallery. Their company slogan is cupcakes made with love, and boy are they !

The cupcakes look so nice you don't want to spoil them !

But when you finally pluck up the courage to dive into one, you can't stop !

My favourite cupcake was this Cherry Bakewell cupcake ! 

A vanilla sponge with raspberry jam in the middle topped with almond flavoured icing and a cherry on top !

8) If you purchase one iPhone app this month by the Victoria Quarter !

The Victoria Quarter in Leeds is the first shopping centre in the UK to have it's very own iPhone/iTouch application !

The app will give users regular updates about offers and events in the centre, as well as full store listings, contact details and weblinks. Updates are highlighted on the app’s icon, so users can easily see the very latest news and offers from the VQ’s 76 stores.

Centre Director, John Bade commented, “With mobile phones so much a part of people’s lives now, the app seemed the perfect way to keep in touch with our customers. The fact that everyone has their phone with them constantly means we’re able to engage with them instantly – far quicker than through the website – and it also allows us to explore new avenues for promoting the centre.”

The app is available to download now from the App Store on iTunes. Enter Victoria Quarter in the App search box and click install for a free download to your iPhone !

Jeremy Scott : Pret-a-Porter ! Vraiment ?

After perousing through the Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear catwalk shows, I stumbled upon Jeremy Scott's collection. The American born designer has took a whole new approach and take on the term Ready-to-Wear. I'll let you be the judge !

With these next three outfits I love Jeremy's innervation and creative approach but I am curious to see which celebrities and fashionistas will be queuing up to have these garments hanging in their closets !

After looking through the entire collection which consisted of both womenswear and menswear the most Ready-to-Wear and fall-like piece I came across and is actually the piece I like the most from the collection is a grey and black knitwear jumper dress with batwing sleeves. that when the model strutted down the runway and raised her arms spelt out the word Style, it seems that jumper dress is already spreading it's message with singer Rihanna already being snapped in the dress !

Blogger Frustration !

For reasons unknown to me, blogspot has decided to change my page design, layout and overall look so apologies for it hideous appearance ! Good god looks like my blog got dressed in the dark ! This will only be temporary as of tomorrow my blog will be getting as big of a radical makeover as Madonna !

Stylists' Closet Update !

As we get closer to the date of the event, I'm getting more and more excited but anxious as I hope everything goes to plan which is never really the case with any styling event or fashion show !

I'm so excited to have Wallis and db3 involved with the event, as I never thought any High Street brand would.

I'm glad Coco Boo are onboard with the event as I love their clothes, their boutique and the fact that they are a local business.

If this wasn't exciting enough we had just discovered that the one and only Topshop are now joining the Stylists Closet ! This is a huge success for the Stylists' Closet Team and more of a reason to come on Monday 14th June !

Must Have Accessory of the Year !

This will only be a short blog, but i find this bit of information is somewhat hot off the press !


We all know the ludicrous amounts of money footballers earn and get to splash out on their "WAGS" and on themselves !  It doesn't seem to take long before it looks like Louis Vuitton himself has thrown up on some footballers ! So why am I rambling on about football on a fashion blog ?

It seems there's one piece of Louis Vuitton luggage am sure every footballer will be looking to get their can't live without designer clothes, tax dodging hands on, not just for fashion purposes but also because of what's inside the box !

Who wants to step inside the Stylists' Closet ?

Are you stuck in a wardrobe rut? UCLan Stylists' Closet is a personal styling event for anyone who's going through a style crisis, or has lost their way in the fashion world and simply want to restore their confidence and self esteem by gaining inspiration and guidance. 

Come along on Monday 14^th June, 10-4pm at the Preston Flag Market in the City Centre for a fun and fashionable day; this is an event for everyone...

The UCLan styling team will breathe new life into existing wardrobes, showing the people of Lancashire how to transform the basics we all have into a fabulous new look for summer 2010- without spending a fortune!

Fashion Styling and Promotion students from the university will be working alongside two industry professionals; Emma- Jade Parker, a fantastic stylist with 12 years experience working in styling for film and television and has a qualification in personal image and colour consultation and Natasha Litwinenko who has four years industry experience as a hair and make-up artist and currently works at the world renown Revelations School of Make-up. 

Each client will receive a personal consultation with advice on which colours suit them best and what shapes are most flattering for them , professional hair and make-up and have the opportunity to browse through an extensive rail of the seasons must- have pieces from Wallis, the high street women's fashion retailer, whilst sipping on a glass of bubbly. We also have DB3 situated in The Mall, Preston and Preston's very on Coco Boo boutique offering on trend and one of a kind pieces You will be pampered from start to finish! Every transformation will received a complimentary photo shoot with images to take home as a keep sake of their fabulous day.
